Chamomile Matricaria recutita – Chamomile is anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial antispasmodic, bitter nervine, carminative and vulnerary. Chamomile is used for insomnia, anxiety, menopausal depression, loss of appetite, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, colic, aches and pains of flu, migraine, neuralgia, teething, vertigo, motion sickness, conjunctivitis, inflamed skin, urticaria etc. Chamomile contains apegenin a flavone that is a well known anti-spasmodic and more recently known to be a natural aromatase inhibitor thereby preventing the conversion of weak oestrogen to cancer promoting oestrogen.
Wind flower Anemone pulsatilla - Pulsatilla is an alterative, antibacterial, analgesic, antispasmodic, central nervous system depressant, nervine and sedative. It is indicated for dysmenorrhoea with scanty menses, orchitis, ovaralgia, epididymitis, tension headache, hyperactive states, insomnia, boils, skin eruptions associated with bacterial infection. This herb is particularly applicable to women, and is of value in neuralgia, headache and nervous exhaustion, particularly premenstrually or during the menopause. It is a specific remedy for pain and inflammation of the reproductive system, especially when this is associated with poor flow. It alleviates menstrual cramps, especially when accompanied by anxiety or irritability. It will help insomnia and general over-activity. It is applicable to inflammation and infection of both male and female reproductive organs and tissues.
Oats Avena sativa – Oats are anticholesterolemic, antispasmodic, anti-cancer, cardiac, diuretic, emollient, nervine, nutritive, poultice and stimulant. Oats are the trophorestorative to the nervous system. Oats gently restore vigour after debilitating illnesses, helps lower cholesterol levels in the blood and increase stamina. The seed is a mealy nutritive herb that is antispasmodic, cardiac, diuretic, emollient, nervine and stimulant. The seed contains the anti-tumour compound b-sitosterol and has been used as a folk remedy for tumours. A gruel made from the ground seed is used in inflammatory cases, fevers and after parturition. It should be avoided in cases of dyspepsia accompanied with acidity of the stomach. A tincture of the ground seed in alcohol is useful as a nervine and uterine tonic. A decoction strained into a bath will help to soothe itchiness and eczema. A poultice made from the ground seeds is used in the treatment of eczema and dry skin. When consumed regularly, oat germ reduces blood cholesterol levels. Oat straw and the grain are mildly antidepressant, gently raising energy levels and supporting an over-stressed nervous system and used to treat general debility and a wide range of nervous conditions They are of particular value in helping a person to cope with the exhaustion that results from multiple sclerosis, chronic neurological pain and insomnia. Oats are thought to stimulate sufficient nervous energy to help relieve insomnia. Oats are an excellent remedy for hair loss associated with stress.
Hyssop Hyssopus officinalis - Hyssop is anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic, expectorant, emmenagogue, hepatic and nervine. Hyssop contains hesperedin a bioflavanoid that is a natural antihistamine. Hyssop has an interesting range of uses, which are largely attributable to the antispasmodic action of the volatile oil. It is used in coughs, bronchitis and chronic catarrh. Its diaphoretic properties explain its use in the common cold. As a nervine it may be used in anxiety states, hysteria and petit mal (a form of epilepsy). It is specific for asthma with an emotional component.
Skullcap Scutellaria laterifolia – Scullcap is anti-spasmodic, hypotensive and nervine tonic. Skullcap relaxes states of nervous tension whilst at the same time renewing and revivifying the central nervous system. It has a specific use in the treatment of seizure and hysterical states as well as epilepsy. It may be used in all exhausted or depressed conditions. It can be used with complete safety in the easing of pre-menstrual tension. Priest & Priest tell us that it is a " diffusive, stimulating & relaxing nervine - cerebral vasodilator and tropho restorative. Indicated for nervous irritation of the cerebrospinal nervous system" They give the following specific indications: functional nervous exhaustion, post febrile nervous weakness. Chorea, hysteria, agitation and epileptiform, convulsions, insomnia, nightmares, restless sleep.
Vervain Verbena officinalis - Vervain is analgesic, antibacterial, anticoagulant, antispasmodic, anticancer, astringent, birthing aid, depurative, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, galactogogue, stimulant, tonic and vulnerary. Vervain is useful when taken internally in the treatment of headaches, fevers, nervous exhaustion, depression, gall bladder problems, insufficient lactation etc. It should not be given to pregnant women, though it can be used to assist contractions during labour. Externally, it is used to treat minor injuries, eczema, sores, neuralgia and gum disease. Some remarkable results have been obtained when using this plant in the treatment of certain tumours, but further research needs to be carried out before definite claims can be made. The root is astringent, it is used in the treatment of dysentery. This species was ranked 12th in a Chinese survey of 250 potential antifertility (i.e. contraceptive) plants. The plant is used in Bach flower remedies - the keywords for prescribing it are 'Strain', 'Stress', 'Tension' and 'Over-enthusiasm.
All herbal tinctures come in 200ml bottles, taken at either 5ml 3 x day or 7 1/2 ml 2 x day. One bottle taken at this therapeutic dose will last 2 weeks.

As a rough guide, I say for every year you have had a condition you need a month of treatment, although if the herbal tonic is right for you, you should expect to see some improvement of your condition within the 2 weeks.
All herbs are either 1 in 1s or 1 in 2s meaning they are 1 part herb in 1 or 2 parts liquid respectively, as opposed to other herbs on the Irish and UK market which are either 1 in 3s or 1 in 5s. Therefore my tinctures are at least 2 x greater in strength and effectiveness. They are also organic or wildcrafted and I do not use endangered species.
