Antiviral Essential Oils in the prevention of H1N1 Swine Flu

Essential oils from many plant families have demonstrated antiviral properties in laboratory. Many of the abstracts on Pub Med, the database of the National Institute of Health for peer-reviewed journal articles, describe essential oils activity as an excellent preventative measure. Use before exposure can lessen the potential of infection. This is the case for any type of virus, be it our 'regular' flu season or to the current potential pandemic threat of H1N1 swine flu. In this case, some advanced practitioners would apply small amounts of oil several times a day to the neck & sternum, &may even ingest one or two drops of an anti-viral oil blend.

Swine Flu H1N1 - Natural prevention

H1N1 virus

An influenza pandemic is an epidemic of an influenza virus that spreads on a worldwide scale and infects a large proportion of the world population. The 2009 swine flu outbreak is the spread of a new strain of H1N1 influenza virus. The 1918 flu pandemic (January 1918 – December 1920) was due to the H1N1 influenza virus. It infected 500 million people around the world, including people on remote Pacific islands and in the Arctic, and resulted in the deaths of 50 to 100 million people. Mortality was high in people younger than 5 years old, 20-40 years old, and 65 years and older. Most experts believe another influenza pandemic will occur, but it is impossible to predict when or where it will appear or how severe it will be. As current medical treatments such as a vaccine are not yet viable due to genetic mutations and mixing between different influenza viruses creating new viral strains, herbal medicine, nutritional supplementation, dietary and lifestyle approaches can prevent and treat flu naturally, without the use of pharmacological drugs.
