Eczema

Naturopathic Causes and Treatment of Autoimmune Disease

psoriasis or eczema

Eczema is also called Atopic dermatitis (AD). Eczema affects 10 percent of adults in the United States and about 25 percent of children worldwide.. AD is an inflammatory disorder in which the skin becomes covered in itchy, scaly lesions. These lesions cause cracks in the skin’s outer barrier, exposing patients to infection. Eczema is always accompanied by activation of the immune system. Eczema has an auto-immune component. Certainly eczema is a concurrent symptom of food allergy. Previous studies have shown that drugs that suppress the entire immune system have improved eczema patients’ symptoms. However, scientists were not sure exactly how these drugs work in patients with eczema. From a naturopathic perspective we aim to modulate (not suppress) immune response and address the causes of autoimmune diseases by boosting natural immunity and prescribing  herbal medicine, diet, lifestyle and nutritional supplement advice. Please read also Naturopathic Causes and Treatement of Eczema.

Naturopathic Causes and Treatment of Eczema

psoriasis or eczema

Eczema is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin. Symptoms recurring skin rashes that are characterised by one or more of these symptoms; redness, skin oedema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. From a naturopathic perspective eczema is an allergic disease on the rise due to the hygiene hypothesis which proposes that the cause of asthma, eczema, and other allergic diseases is an unusually clean environment, the overuse of anti-pyretics (to suppress fever) the overuse and abuse of antibiotics and the overuse and abuse of vaccines. It is supported by epidemiological studies for allergic disease. The hypothesis states that exposure to bacteria and other immune system modulators is important during development, and missing out on this exposure increases risk for asthma and allergy.
